While the year 2020 has brought about many unexpected challenges, there is also some joy to be found in the unusual year such as spending more quality time with family and getting to take a step back from the usual hustle and bustle of life. The changes have brought about some unique interior design trends for 2021.
This year has put many individuals working remotely and students learning from home, either part time or full time. With more time being spent within the home, people are rethinking their interior design and redesigning to better fit their current needs. Many people are adding a home office area, home gym, or a neat game room for entertainment while many attractions are still closed.
The year 2020 has brought renewed aspects into interior design that create a practical place of refuge and a comfortable place to work. These new ideals have set forth some unique trends that will lead us into 2021.
A Workable Home Office

Having a room or space dedicated to a home office has once again become a staple in many homes. Individuals had grown accustomed to using their laptop in bed or while sitting on the sofa but with many businesses remaining closed, employees are now looking for a proper working space at home. From turning a spare bedroom into a home office or using an area in the basement, home offices will be seen everywhere in 2021.
Creating A Learning Space

Just as parents are working from home, students are now learning in the home environment as well. While they may not need a room dedicated to schooling, they should have an area without the abundance of distractions from the TV or toys in their bedrooms. In 2021 we will continue to see learning spaces with small desks and cabinets in areas set aside for students to do their schooling. A corner or against a wall is the perfect spot since most online classes use Zoom and you don’t want mess to be seen in the background!
Revisioning the Kitchen

Another interior design trend for 2021 is updated kitchens. With many restaurants being closed during the pandemic, families took to home cooking. Trying new recipes became a popular hobby in 2020 and has led to many homes receiving a newly designed kitchen. Investments have gone into new appliances and cabinets. Kitchen Islands have become a popular addition as people are in need for additional cooking and storage space.
