As a leading luxury furniture store in Western North Carolina, we are excited to share our High Country Furniture vendor of the month- Mayo Furniture. As a longtime supporter of this high-quality furniture company, we are excited to share an interview with Brian Harris, Mayo Furniture representative for the Carolina’s.
We appreciate their commitment to hand crafted furniture, and their resilience to always “find a way” to produce incredible furniture. The company started as a dream with Linn Mayo, a man of integrity. The partners he chose to work with along the way were valued more for their honor than the money they could provide. Linn’s story is one similar to many successful businesses, starting with an owner who believed failure was not an option. Joining the marines after Pearl Harbor, his grit and determination shaped his character into someone who could get through anything- the tumultuous turbulence of the furniture business included.
In 2026, we still love working with Mayo and the fantastic team they have on staff. Tricie Campbell, one of our designers, recently said “Mayo has excellent leather/fabric combinations, and we love using Mayo for the various types of styles and selections we can offer our customers.” She went on to speak about how the High-Country Furniture team is thankful to work with Mr. Harris because of the attention and dedication he provides to our designers and customers.
The following is a series of questions we’ve asked Mr. Brian to get a personal look at what makes Mayo Furniture so special.
What does Mayo do or have that separates them from competitors?
“Mayo is an extremely versatile line that offers exceptional value to customers. Our frames are built to last and feature hardwood mortise and tenon construction. We fabricate our own seat cushions which is rare in this industry. Perhaps our biggest separation from the competition is our production speed. We offer 400 fabrics, 80 leathers, 100% custom built furniture, and it’s delivered to your store in 3-4 weeks. You can choose almost any fabric or leather and put it on any frame and still keep the short lead times.”
What fabric is trending right now with Mayo in 2026?
“I’m seeing lots of green color palates. We’re using olive green velvets as body fabrics and various shades of green on accent pillow fabrics. We’re also seeing earthtones and muted jewel tones making a comeback. Of course, stain-resistant performance fabrics like Revolution and Crypton remain very popular. Our leather program is also extremely popular. Mayo offers one of the most compelling leather programs in the industry.”
Why did you choose to be part of Mayo?
“Mayo is a third-generation family business. The Mayo family treats their employees like family and are awesome to work for. Their name is on the product, and they stand behind every piece of furniture they make. I really appreciate their commitment to the quality they put behind the product and the way they take care of their employees.”
Have you seen any trends regarding a certain style of chair or sofa?
“I see different trends in the different parts of the Carolinas that I travel. Coastal areas are still using lots of white and cream colors. I see a lot of small frames with track arms in urban areas. Still seeing leather and traditional styles in the mountains, so it truly depends on your location. One thing we’ve seen for a while is the demand for reclining options. Mayo launched our new motion program last October at High Point market, and it’s starting to ship now. The ability for us to offer hundreds of fabrics and leathers in a custom motion program is an exciting step for Mayo.”
What is Mayo’s biggest seller?
“In my area of the country, the 4300 frame is the best seller due to its timeless style and versatility. This frame is available in fabric, leather, leather/fabric combination, and you can even choose a combination of leather with hair on hide accents. It’s also offered as a sofa, sectional, or even a conversation sofa.”
What do you think contributes to Mayo’s success?
“I could give you many answers to this question, but our commitment to quality and never cutting corners is one of our biggest strengths. Also, speed to market. Most of our competitors are quoting 8-10 week lead times on custom upholstery. We challenge the status quo and believe high quality, custom upholstery can be built and delivered in 3-4 weeks. We live in a world where people do most of their shopping online and they just don’t like to wait. You can choose just about any of our fabrics and put them on any frame and still keep the short lead times. Finally, Mayo is fully American made. There are NO cut and sew kits imported from Asia, no imported parts, it’s truly an American made product.”
How did Mayo first start work with High Country Furniture?
“High Country was already a Mayo dealer when I was hired as the territory manager. I know the relationship has been strong for many years and I so enjoy working with the High Country staff. The items you find in the High Country stores are so unique and the design team is top notch. I love going to see the staff and everyone is so welcoming. We are honored to be a valued partner with High Country Furniture.”
