Southwestern Style Furniture

The unique and distinctive style of Southwestern style furniture has been a popular interior design choice for many years. Southwestern décor encompasses the influence of Spanish culture of early settlers in New Mexico, Arizona, and other southwestern states. The style evolved throughout time to create a design that showcases a mixture of American and Spanish culture.

The main colors used in Southwestern style furniture are warm, neutral colors found in the American desert such as Rust, Sand, Mahogany, Cactus Green, and Terracotta. Bright accents are added to give great color to this style such as turquoise, yellow, orange, and bright red. The pairing of neutral colors with bright accents provides an amazing look.

Another common element of this style is a mix of materials. Reclaimed wood pieces with natural aged beauty and history are often used and typically wood pieces are hand carved. Wrought iron handles, knobs, and accents are used alongside of natural wood to give additional character. Natural leather and hair-on-hides are staples in Southwestern décor as well as loosely woven wool and cotton fabrics with unique prints.

The possibilities for Southwestern accents are endless! Copper, clay, and stone accessories can provide a nice finishing touch to your interior design. Use accents as an opportunity to add great color and texture with rugs, pillows, and blankets.
